Toorop (1891-1955) was a remarkable figure in the Dutch art world. The daughter of the famous Jan Toorop, she nevertheless developed a voice entirely her own. Throughout her life, she worked in an expressive-realistic style, inspired by German Expressionism and Picasso's post-Cubist work. Her “hard” modelling and coarse paint treatment made her unique.
